1937 MG TA Midget

MG TA Midget

Β£24,950

Year: 1937 Gearbox: Manual

Introduced in 1936, the MG TA marked the beginning of the all-new T-Series and replaced the earlier P-Type Midget. Powered by MG’s overhead-valve 1292cc engine, the TA was a noticeably larger and more refined car, offering improved comfort and a roomier cockpit while retaining the engaging character that defined the marque.

The TA also benefited from hydraulic brakes and, at Β£222 when new, represented excellent value for money for the standard two-seater.

This very pretty TA started life on 2nd July 1937, leaving the factory in stunning red as shown on the car today. Ownership history dates back to 29/11/1960 by a Mr Frederick Curtis of Bristol, who passed the car onto a John-David Marriot of Ipswich in 1962.

The current owner purchased the car from a classic car dealership in Weedon as a restoration project, and proceeded to complete the restoration with much of the previous work being started again from scratch. There is a pack of photographs showing the car during the rebuild stage which concluded in 2000, and a new hood was fitted in 2013. The TA’s registration number ‘DYV 562’ was able to be retained with the car as the original 1960’s Registration Book was (and still is) in the history file.

The history file has extensive invoices of Β£1000’s spent on annual servicing & upgrades at a classic MG specialist, parts invoices and many MOTs dating back to 2003. Also in the file is the cars original Registration Book showing the owners from the 1960’s, a classic car magazine from July 1992 with the advertisement from when the car was purchased and monthly storage check sheets from 2019 to date.

The TA is now being sold out of the same ownership of nearly 35 years, and the car has been constantly improved, very well maintained and enjoyed during this time. The car presents extremely well today, starts on the button and drives very well and is currently in professional dehumidified storage where it has been serviced annually and run up to temperature monthly since 2019.

The MG has been recently serviced and has a valid MOT (no advisories) until 2027.
